Little Omena is based out of the Leelanau Peninsula, amidst a community of artists and creators who all dwell on the 45th parallel. They have performed in venues across the United States, from coffeeshops and festivals to home concerts, from the Pacific Northwest to Southern Texas, and much of the in-between.
A notable component of Little Omena's music is their unique instrument pairing and high instrument to performer ratio. Both Maggie and Jimmy play a plethora of instruments and are able to present an array of various combinations. Maggie holds down the lead vocals and plays ukulele, flute, and guitar. Jimmy plays lead guitar, banjo, mandolin, harmonica, and periodically jumps in on the vocals.
The allure of Little Omena's music comes from creative songwriting, evocative lyrics, and a distinct sound quality that is wholly their own. They have been described as, "... soulful... lyrics run deep and rhythm's beckon toe tapping with hip swinging." Their sound and stage presence has been likened to artists such as The Wheepies, Breathe Owl Breathe, and Gillian Welch & David Rawlings.
